Abstract art is also referred to as non representational art, non figurative art or non realistic art.
It is a common misconception that abstract painting only began to emerge in the late 20th century. While the array of abstraction has dilated recently into line art, semi abstract art and futuristic art, its origin can be dated back to the 19th century and particularly to the Renaissance. There were three art movements that contributed to its development, namely Expressionism, Impressionism and Romanticism. The characteristic trait of Expressionism is the manifestation of subjective and emotional experiences through art. Impressionism, on the other hand, places emphasis on presenting its subject matter in a distant and vague form, often producing the effect of time passing. Romanticism holds closest to traditional art, although the contrast between color and design marks it as distinctively abstract.
These days, the original concepts of this distinct art form have been subject to differing philosophies, emotions and creativity, resulting in a diverse range of abstract art ideas and masterpieces. From torn to hypnotic and from explosions to reflections, there is something to suit every mood and sentiment. And yet, the collections grow in abstract art galleries and new forms originate. The layers of meaning are cultivated in each stroke of the artist’s brush and go on to be explored by the art-lover or the nonchalant passerby.
Simply the breadth of non representational art means that there is something for every home in this category. Many of these artworks will have a more remarkable effect in large spaces, due, in a great part, to the bold colors, shapes and imagery they possess. However, if you choose abstract flower art, abstract landscape art, or any other semi abstract painting, you will find they will revive even small places, whether at work or at home.
